Attention Sales People: Lend Me Your Ear

A sign of their potential: Which ear they wear their headsets on

If you have to interview somebody for a telephone sales job here's a tip -- just let them put on the headset.

If they put the earpiece over the left ear, hire them. If they put it over the right ear, pass.

That's the conclusion of a study reported in the journal Perceptual Motor Skills.

Telemarketers who wore the earpiece over their left ear routinely outsold others who wore the earpiece on their right ear, or those who wore two earpieces. Making the entire staff wear the earpieces on the left ear did nothing to improve sales.
