FDA Needs Your Help

Report problems with medicines, foods, cosmetics and more

You probably know that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is responsible for making sure that everything from medicines to foods to cosmetics are safe to use. But what do you do if you have trouble with a product?

The FDA has several ways for you to report problems, depending on the product involved. And the agency says it needs your help because despite testing before products are approved, some problems aren't detected until a larger number of people use the product.

If you have an emergency to report involving a food-borne illness or a drug that's been tampered with, call (301) 443-1240, 24 hours a day. To report any other problem, the FDA has a Web site that includes contact numbers and links to reporting forms at www.fda.gov/opacom/backgrounders/problem.html.
