Medications During Emergencies

Keep a three-day supply at home

(HealthDayNews) -- Sometimes emergency situations, such as power failures or extreme weather conditions, can limit your access to medications.

The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists offers this advice:

  • Keep a list of your medications in your wallet.
  • Maintain a minimum three-day supply at home.
  • Refill prescriptions a week before your current supply is gone.
  • If needed, wear a medical-alert bracelet, especially if you have diabetes, Alzheimer's disease or an implantable cardiac defibrillator.
