Vitamin K and niacin good for complexion, experts say

WEDNESDAY, March 26, 2003 (HealthDayNews) -- Here are two more vitamins to take if you want a glowing complexion: vitamin K and niacin.

That advice was presented recently at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Dermatology in San Francisco.

While many people already use viatmins C, E and A to help keep their skin healthy, recent studies found vitamin K and niacin (vitamin B-3) also offer benefits.

Vitamin K was found to be successful in treating dark circles under the eyes. It's also been found effective for treating bruising on the face following dermatologic procedures such as laser treatment for spider veins.

Niacin shows promise as an over-the-counter ingredient in anti-aging products.

"Vitamins can provide many benefits to the skin, yet with so many different vitamins and different derivatives, consumers may be confused about what ingredients to look for and what products to select," dermatologist Dr. Leslie Baumann says in a news release.

"The best way to find answers about selecting the best products for specific skin type or correcting a problem area is to see your dermatologist who can provide the proper guidance."
