(HealthDay News) -- Migraines are severe, debilitating headaches that can cause nausea, dizziness and sensitivity to light and certain sounds. If you're able to figure out what triggers a migraine, you may be able to prevent one. Here are some common causes, courtesy of the Nemours Foundation:

  • Stress.
  • Some foods, including anything fried or fatty, some meats, cheese, chocolate, ice cream, aspartame or anything cooked in MSG.
  • Skipping a meal.
  • Consuming too much caffeine.
  • Smoking.
  • Changes in the weather.
  • Changes in hormone levels, including menstruation.
  • Getting too much or not enough sleep, or a change in sleep schedule.
