The Virus That Doesn't Exist

Klingerman virus a hoax, CDC says

There are all kinds of urban legends. Everyone knows that alligators are a huge problem in the New York City sewers (actually only one has ever been found, and that was in the 1930s).

Here's another one to add to the list: the Klingerman virus. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) had to issue a statement this year stating categorically that no such virus exists, even though the rumor was widespread.

Supposedly, many were infected after handling a sponge contained in a package marked, "A gift for you from the Klingerman Foundation."
