Americans Want Affordable Care Act Improved, Not Scrapped: Poll

Instead of trying to scrap the Affordable Care Act (ACA), President Donald Trump and congressional Republicans should try to improve it, a large majority of Americans say.

The national poll by the nonpartisan Kaiser Family Foundation was conducted after last month's failure by Senate Republicans to pass a bill to replace and repeal the Obama-era health care reform law. Trump and his administration have suggested taking steps to repeal and replace the ACA.

By nearly 2-to-1, poll respondents said it's good that the repeal-and-replace bill failed, and about 4 in 5 respondents want the White House and Republicans to focus on making the ACA better, the Associated Press reported.

That includes the law's marketplaces, where premiums are rising and in some areas few insurers are willing to sell policies, according to the poll released Friday.

Only 3 in 10 want Trump and the Republicans to continue their efforts to repeal and replace the law. In what could be a factor the 2018 House and Senate elections, 6 in 10 respondents would blame Trump and congressional Republicans for any upcoming health care problems, the AP reported.

Contaminated Eggs Distributed in 17 Countries

Contaminated eggs were distributed in 15 European Union members as well as in Switzerland and Hong Kong, EU officials say.

The eggs were treated with a product containing the pesticide Fipronil. Several egg producers in the Netherlands and Belgium are under investigation and some farms in France and Germany have also been blocked, EU trade and agriculture spokesman Daniel Rosario said Friday, the Associated Press reported.

Along with the four nations where the eggs came from, other EU nations that received the contaminated eggs include: Sweden, Britain, Austria, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia and Denmark.
