Ebola Drug Study Canceled

Here are some of the latest health and medical news developments, compiled by the editors of HealthDay:

Ebola Drug Study Canceled

Human testing of a potential Ebola drug has been canceled because a decline in cases of the deadly disease in Liberia has resulted in too few patients for the study, Doctors Without Borders said Wednesday.

Just a few days earlier, the maker of the drug brincidofovir announced it would no longer take part in the clinical trial, the Associated Press reported.

Brincidofovir has been used to treat other viruses and this study was meant to determine if the drug could also fight Ebola. There is no approved treatment for the disease.

In related news, human tests of two potential Ebola vaccines began Monday in Liberia, the AP reported.
