Ebola Vaccines Coming in Next Few Months: WHO

The World Health Organization says thousands of doses of experimental Ebola vaccines should become available in the coming months.

If proven safe, the vaccines could be given to health care workers and others at high risk of the deadly disease and help bring the Ebola outbreak in West Africa under control, the Associated Press reported.

To date, no Ebola vaccine has proved to be safe or effective in humans, according to WHO Assistant Director-General Marie-Paule Kieny. Testing on some of the new vaccines has already started, she said.

Kieny said several thousands of doses of a vaccine developed in Canada and about 10,000 doses of another vaccine developed in the United States should be available by the start of next year, the AP reported.

It's believed that more than 6,200 people have become sick in the Ebola outbreak in West Africa, and about half have died.

Nearly 40,000 pounds of frozen pre-cooked chicken products are being recalled by Foster Farms due to possible listeria contamination.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, seniors, and people with weak immune systems, and can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women.

The recall covers 3.5-pound resealable plastic bags of frozen Chicken Breast Grilled Strips produced Aug. 5, 2014 and shipped to retail warehouse locations in California, Texas, Utah, and Washington state. The products have the establishment number "P-33901" and a Best by Date of 08-05-15.

No reports of illnesses associated with the recalled products have been received by the company or by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service.
