Health Tip: Protect Kids' Hearing During the Holidays

Teach children to shield their ears

(HealthDay News) -- Holiday celebrations can become loud and boisterous, putting little ears at risk from loud music, parties or toys.

The American Academy of Pediatrics advises parents to:

  • Teach children to protect their hearing, by turning down the volume and taking breaks from headphone use.
  • Look for products such as noise cancelling headphones or well-fitting ear buds that can help protect hearing.
  • Avoid toys that are excessively noisy. Test these products before you buy them.
  • If at a party or concert, stay away from the speakers and other sources of loud noise.
