Health Tip: When Earwax Becomes a Problem

You may have trouble hearing

(HealthDay News) -- Earwax (medically called cerumen) is a natural product designed to protect and clean the ear. But wax buildup can lead to hearing problems and other issues.

The American Academy of Otolaryngology says warning signs of wax buildup include:

  • Feeling like the ear is plugged, clogged or full.
  • Pain.
  • Hearing loss, which may worsen over time.
  • Hearing a ringing sound or other unexplained noise.
  • Itching, discharge or unpleasant odor in or near the ear.
  • Coughing.
