Health Tip: Yeast Infection

Before you buy an OTC remedy, see your doctor

(HealthDayNews) -- Women who grapple with feminine itch might be tempted to blame their tight jeans, but the cause might be a yeast infection, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

A yeast infection is an overabundance of this common fungus. Infections primarily occur in the pubic area, but can develop in other parts of the body.

The biggest cause of the infection is lowered immunity. This can happen when you become run down from not getting enough rest, or as a result of illness.

Over-the-counter medicines are available to treat yeast infections. But before you run to the local drug store, you should see a doctor to confirm that it is the source of your problem.
