Nailing the Problem

Fake nails on nurses can harbor bacteria

According to the American Society for Microbiology, nurses wearing artificial fingernails harbor harmful bacteria and yeasts. Furthermore, handwashing is ineffective at removing these pathogens. The artificial nails may increase the chances that dangerous bacteria are passed to patients and cause serious infection.
