(HealthDayNews) -- As the new school year begins, help your child develop good learning and homework habits from the outset.
The American Academy of Pediatrics offers these pointers:
- Children learn better on a full stomach, so encourage your child to eat a nutritious breakfast.
- Set aside a homework area that's free of distractions, including TV.
- Show your child you're interested in her work. Re-explain assignments if necessary, and check to see that homework is completed.
- If your child's extra-curricular schedule is interfering with her homework, consider cutting back on her outside activities.
- If your child is struggling with a particular subject and you aren't able to help, get her a tutor, even for a few sessions.
