(HealthDay) -- It's school time again, and if you have young children you're probably preparing for annual inner-ear infections. Called otitis media, ear infections aren't contagious, but the upper-respiratory infections that cause them are.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has some tips to help keep your children from being infected:
- Make sure your kids cover their mouths with disposable tissues when they cough or sneeze, and use disposable tissues to blow their noses;
- Throw away tissues immediately after using them;
- Don't let your children play with toys that other kids have put in their mouths;
- If you see another child put a toy in his or her mouth, set it aside to be washed later.
