The Added Benefits of Day Care

Kids get early exposure and immunity to illnesses

If you're a working parent, you know some benefits of sending your child to day care. Obviously, it allows you to work and maybe gives you a little time to yourself. But there may be more benefits than you realize.

The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center says studies have shown that children in day care gain early exposure to certain illnesses. And that early exposure can provide immunity for the future. For example, German researchers report that kids in day care before age 1 have fewer allergies.

The medical center also says kids also benefit because they get communicable diseases before school age and thus miss less class time later.
