Bug Off!
DEET not for kids of all ages
Mosquito-borne illnesses like West Nile virus are a growing problem. Bug repellants with the chemical DEET can keep those pesky pests at bay for adults, but are they safe for kids?
Health Canada says products containing DEET should never be used on infants younger than 6 months. For children 6 months to 24 months old, use a product containing only 10 percent or less of DEET. And use it only once a day and only on a child who will be in places where mosquitoes gather.
For children up to 30 months, use a spray with no more than 10 percent DEET and no more than three times a day.
