Growing Pains

Massage the area that hurts

(HealthDayNews) -- Growing pains usually affect kids between the ages of three and five, then later in eight- to 12-year-olds.

Most kids complain of aches in the front of their thighs, in their calves or behind their knees, according to The Nemours Foundation.

For relief, you can massage the painful area, help your child to stretch the affected muscle, or give him acetaminophen or ibuprofen.

But if your child suddenly complains his legs are throbbing, don't automatically assume it's a growing pain. First, have your doctor rule out any other cause.
