Health Tip: Caring for Baby's Heat Rash

Keep skin cool and dry

(HealthDay News) -- Baby's sensitive skin can break out in a heat rash when exposed to hot, humid weather, as the sweat gland openings become blocked.

The American Academy of Pediatrics suggests how to soothe heat rash:

  • Put baby in comfortable clothing that allows the skin to stay cool and dry.
  • Take extra care of folds of skin that may be moistened by urine, drool or sweat.
  • Cleanse baby with cool water to wipe away sweat and body oils. Then thoroughly dry the skin.
  • Never apply skin ointments.
