Hyperthermia, a potentially dangerous elevation of body temperature, may result

(HealthDay News) -- Kids left in the car, either accidentally or not, can be at risk for hyperthermia, a potentially dangerous elevation of body temperature. This can happen even in mild weather and in a short period of time.

Safe Kids USA lists these guidelines to prevent kids from suffering hyperthermia in the car:

  • Never leave your child alone in a car -- even with a window cracked.
  • Always call 911 immediately if you see a child alone in a car.
  • Set your bag, phone, wallet or whatever you always take from the car on the floor in front of your child in the backseat so you won't forget that your child is traveling with you.
