Health Tip: Reduce Baby's Exposure to BPA

The chemical is found in many plastics

(HealthDay News) -- Bisphenol A (BPA) is a chemical that is commonly used in plastic supplies for babies, including bottles. Some recent studies have cited harmful effects of exposure to BPA, especially among young children.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services offers this advice on how parents can limit baby's exposure to BPA:

  • Don't use any baby bottles or child cups that have scratches, which may allow release of the chemical.
  • Do not pour water that is very hot or boiling into baby's bottles that may contain BPA.
  • Don't microwave products that may contain BPA.
  • Use baby bottles that are labeled BPA-free.
