(HealthDayNews) -- A lot of new mothers put mittens on their newborns to keep them from scratching themselves, but these safety devices may themselves be a hazard.
According to the journal Injury, an infant's finger may get caught in a hole in the mittens, and this could cut off circulation to the fingertip.
So keep your infant's fingernails short, and carefully check infant mittens for holes or signs of wear.
