Mitten Warning

Avoid putting them on newborns

(HealthDayNews) -- A lot of new mothers put mittens on their newborns to keep them from scratching themselves, but these safety devices may themselves be a hazard.

According to the journal Injury, an infant's finger may get caught in a hole in the mittens, and this could cut off circulation to the fingertip.

So keep your infant's fingernails short, and carefully check infant mittens for holes or signs of wear.
