Poison Prevention

Household products can harm kids

(HealthDay) -- There are lots of poisons around the house, and they include many cleaning products you keep under the kitchen sink.

The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center says more than 7,500 children under age 6 were poisoned by household products during a recent three-year period. That illustrates just how important it is to keep such products where they can't be reached by youngsters.

The medical center also says many manufacturers could make their products safer by not selling them in concentrated forms. While the concentrated products save on packaging, they are more poisonous if ingested by a child.
