Health Tip: Coping with Hair Loss

Talk to your doctor about treatment

(HealthDay News) -- Alopecia, the medical term for hair loss, typically is permanent and can be attributed to heredity.

While some people prefer to let baldness run its course, others may opt for one of the medications and surgical procedures that are available to treat baldness.

These may include:

  • Medications to promote hair growth, such as minoxidil and finasteride.
  • Corticosteroid injections.
  • Hair transplants.
  • Scalp reduction.
  • Skin lifts and grafts.

However, before pursuing any of these options, the University of Virginia Health System suggests you talk with your doctor about what may be best for you.
