Some signs your child may need professional help

(HealthDayNews) -- Is your child's erratic and demanding behavior wearing you down?

According to the Children's Hospital in Richmond, Va., your child may need professional help if he or she:

  • Has frequent nightmares or consistently struggles to fall asleep.
  • Frequently acts in an angry or aggressive way, and does not respond to gentle reassurance.
  • Refuses to be separated from you, especially if it's at a place he once enjoyed.
  • Threatens or tries to hurt himself.
  • Restricts his activities due to fear. For example, he avoids the playground, birthday parties and other social events.
  • Cannot get terrorism or other age-inappropriate topic out of his mind and talks about it incessantly.
  • Has numerous temper tantrums each day, and it can take hours to calm him down.
