Team Spirit

Die-hard fan or fair weather friend?

(HealthDayNews) -- How can you tell if a person is truly emotionally involved with a sports team?

The answer comes when you ask a person why their team won or lost a game.

According to the Journal of Social Psychology, researchers at Murray State University in Kentucky studied the reasons fans give for team wins and losses.

People with only a little bit of team spirit usually gave a reasonable explanation of what caused a win or a loss. But the real fans always follow a pattern. If the team wins, it's because the players are the best, anywhere, any time. But if the team loses, it's always because of some "external" reason: a bad call by the ref, the other team didn't play fair, or the sun was too bright.
