If you exchange phone numbers, be sure to write the number down. That's the conclusion of research reported in the Journal of Studies on Alcohol. First, participants were asked to remember a telephone number. Then they had two drinks, and were given another phone number to memorize.
When the number was written down, their accuracy of recall after two drinks dropped by only 9 percent. When the number was only recited, their ability to remember the phone number dropped by 15 percent.
