A Healthy Outlook

Positive attitude helps keep you well

(HealthDayNews) -- Did you ever notice that healthy people have a positive attitude about remaining healthy? By contrast, when something starts to go wrong, your opinion of your body's ability to heal itself can drop like a stone.

By example, read this report from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center that appeared in the Journal of Family Practice.

Researchers asked groups of patients with and without high blood pressure how long they thought it would take them to recover from a cold.

People who knew they had high blood pressure estimated that it would take about 12 days to get over a cold, while people with normal blood pressure estimated about 6 days.

Both groups wound up recovering in the same amount of time -- about 6 days.
