Nearly 4% U.S. Adults Experienced Serious Psychological Distress in Past 30 Days

In 2021, 3.7% of adults reported serious psychological distress in the previous 30 days. The number of adults with distress was higher among women (4.6%) than men (2.7%). Serious distress decreased with age for women but was higher for men aged 18 to 44 and 45 to 64 years vs. 65 years and older.
