Health Tip: No Period. Period.

See your doctor if you don't get your period

(HealthDay News) -- Amenorrhea is the absence of menstrual flow in a woman who has never menstruated by age 16. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, there can be many causes, including drastic weight loss, chronic illness or congenital heart disease.

Usually, treatment of amenorrhea depends on its cause. Sometimes, the condition may be a sign that the reproductive organs in a young woman didn't form properly.

If you're found to have this condition, your doctor may consider hormonal therapy or surgery.
