(HealthDayNews) -- Are you first getting into babysitting? If so, be prepared for what you might encounter, advises the Santa Clara Police Department.

Here are some tips:

  • Before accepting the job, get specifics about the number and ages of the children, their bedtimes, foods, medication and other information about what is expected of you.
  • Find out from your employers what time they expect to be back. And make sure they know what time you have to be home.
  • Leave the name, address, and phone number of where you'll be babysitting with your parents.
  • Make sure you have a ride to and from the job.
