Hotel Security

Tips to reduce your chances of being a victim

You're an elderly widow, but you're not going to let that stop you from seeing the world. Still, being alone in a hotel room can be scary. There are steps you can take to minimize your risk, however.

The National Emergency Medicine Association says never open the door to a stranger. If someone says they are a hotel worker, call the front desk to make sure. At night, always use the main entrance to the hotel and stay in well-lighted areas. Never take room keys out in public where strangers can steal them or see where you're staying.

Don't wear expensive jewelry or show large amounts of cash in the lobby. And don't be afraid to use the hotel safety deposit box to store valuables.
