(HealthDayNews) -- If your summer plans include some boating, you should take the appropriate precautions.
The American Academy of Pediatrics offers these safety tips:
- Have your children wear life jackets whenever they're on a boat or near water.
- Make sure the life jackets are the right fit. They shouldn't be too loose and they should always be worn with all straps belted.
- Water wings, toys, rafts, and air mattresses are not life preservers, so don't use them as such.
- You should also wear a life jacket for your own protection and to set a good example.
