(HealthDayNews) -- If you live alone, especially if you're a woman, take heed of these safety measures from the American Automobile Association:
- Keep your doors and windows locked, and install a one-inch dead bolt and spy hole onto your front door.
- Leave outside lights on at night.
- Leave some indoor lights on when you're out to avoid coming home to a dark house.
- If you haven't called for a repairman, don't allow one inside before calling his workplace to verify his reason for coming.
- Use only your initials on your mailbox and in phone book listings.
- Never disclose to people you don't know well that you live alone.
- Don't leave a message on your answering machine announcing that you aren't home or that you've gone on vacation.
