When the Shark Bites ...
Attacks are rare, but you can protect yourself
Shark attacks have produced some horrifying headlines this summer. But marine experts say your chances of dying from a shark attack are less than your chances of being killed by lightning or a bee sting.
Still, the precautions you can take to minimize your risk include:
- swim in a group;
- avoid the water at dawn or dusk;
- stay out of the water if you're bleeding;
- leave shiny jewelry ashore.
