Even indoors, you should stay off a corded phone

(HealthDay News) -- Yes, the safest place during a lightening storm is indoors, but even inside you should take precautions.

The National Weather Service offers this advice:

  • Don't use any equipment that's directly connected to electric current or fed from the outside, such as computers, televisions or corded telephones.
  • Stay away from plumbing, such as faucets, sinks and bathtubs.
  • Don't hang out on the porch. Come inside and stay away from doors and windows.
  • Don't lean against a concrete wall or lie on a concrete floor.
