(HealthDay News) -- Smoke, dust, ozone and other air pollutants can be hazardous to your health. That's especially true if you have a chronic condition such as asthma.

The American Academy of Family Physicians explains air pollution can cause:

  • Irritation to the lungs, throat and eyes.
  • A burning sensation of the eyes.
  • Coughing and a tightness in the chest.
  • Children may have more frequent episodes of bronchitis and ear pain.
