How to soothe your child's distress

(HealthDayNews) -- If your child is laid up with the flu, soothe her discomfort with these tips from The Nemours Foundation:

  • Encourage her to drink lots of fluids, suck on ice pops or eat soft fruits to keep hydrated.
  • Entice her to stay in bed by supplying magazines, books, and if possible, her favorite videos.
  • Give acetaminophen for aches and pains.
  • Dress your child in layers, so she can peel one off when she's feeling warm or add one back when she feels chilly.
