Spouses of patients with cancer have a greater risk for psychiatric disorders. In a study of 546,321 spouses of individuals with cancer and 2,731,574 spouses of individuals without cancer, incidence rates of first-onset psychiatric disorders were 6.8 and 5.9 per 1,000 patient-years, respectively.
