(HealthDay News) -- Caring for an elderly person can be a stressful challenge, and sometimes that can lead to abuse.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says potential signs of elder abuse among caregivers include:

  • Drinking too much alcohol or abusing drugs.
  • Showing high levels of stress.
  • Lacking social support.
  • Becoming dependent on the elder, either financially or emotionally.
  • Showing signs of depression.
