New mothers and people close to them should know the warning signs of postpartum depression, says the University of Manitoba Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg. They include: trouble enjoying your baby or yourself; trouble sleeping; crying jags and feeling sad; lack of appetite or big weight gain; anxiety; feelings of guilt or worthlessness; feelings of hopelessness, and scary thoughts of harming you or your baby.
If you have any of these warning signs, or know a new mother who exhibits them, get help immediately.
