Sometimes, studies on a particular medical subject seems to contradict each other. For instance, two years ago, a study found a link between gum disease and heart attacks. Last year, another study debunked that link.
Now the July 2001 issue of the Journal of The American Dental Association also reports that a new study found no evidence that "eliminating chronic dental infections, such as periodontitis (gum disease), will decrease a person's risk for coronary heart disease."
However, to date even the sometimes-tentative links between gum disease and diabetes, stroke, premature births and lung disease seem to be holding up.
Rather than relying on researchers, you can keep a really close eye on your own dental health with this new video toothbrush, under development by a Japanese company.
