Risk of warts grows with number of sex partners

(HealthDayNews) -- If you have multiple sex partners, you run the risk of contracting genital warts, which are the most important risk factor for cancer of the cervix.

But how many is "multiple?"

According to a study published in the journal Sexually Transmitted Diseases, women who had at least 40 sex partners had a greatly increased risk of developing genital warts and an abnormal Pap smear, which is often a warning of cervical cancer.

Having fewer than 40 partners did not significantly increase the risk of developing genital warts.
