Strangers in the Night

Who do you dream about?

(HealthDayNews) -- What do most people dream about? Other people mostly, people they've never met.

Large surveys of dreamers found unfamiliar people appear 55 percent of the time and familiar people 45 percent of the time. In addition, men are twice as likely to dream about women as the other way round. And family members show up in 20 percent of dreams, with mothers showing up more than fathers. Brothers and sisters run a distant third and fourth.

Most dreams are without emotion, adds David Bodanis, author of The Body Book, A Fantastic Voyage to the World Within, but when emotion is involved, fear is the predominant feeling, occurring in 40 percent of dreams. Anger shows up in 18 percent of dreams and sadness in 6 percent.

And you may not be surprised to hear that absent from almost everyone's dreams are politicians -- even during election time.
