Social Isolation Increases Dementia Risk in Older Adults

Social isolation is associated with an increased risk for new dementia. Among 5,022 older adults, 23.3% were socially isolated, which was associated with a 28% higher risk for incident dementia over nine years across race and ethnicity when adjusting for demographic and health factors.
