Health Tip: Getting to a Healthy Weight

BMI is what counts

(HealthDay News) -- Exactly how many pounds do you have to lose to reach that magic amount considered healthy?

Doctors say your body mass index, or BMI, is the best way to measure your healthy weight, based on your height.

To compute your BMI, take your weight in pounds divided by your height squared, in inches. Multiply that sum by 703.

BMI = weight / height2 * 703

For example, if you're 5' 7" and weigh 150 pounds, your BMI would be 23.5.

A BMI between 18.5 and 25 is considered a healthy weight.
