Finger Foods

For baby's first-time self-feeding

(HealthDayNews) -- If your baby is around nine months old, it may be time to try some self-feeding.

Boys' Town Pediatrics in Omaha suggests the following appropriate finger foods:

  • Dry cereals, such as Cheerios, Rice Krispies and Kix.
  • Slices of canned fruit, like peaches, pears, apples, pineapples.
  • Slices of soft fresh fruits, such as bananas.
  • Crackers and cookies.

It's advisable to wait until after your childs first birthday before introducing foods such as egg whites, peanut butter, fish and orange juice, since they're more likely than other foods to cause allergies.
