Health Tip: Bulking Up on Food

Don't buy more than you can use

(HealthDay News) -- Buying food in bulk can help you save money on pantry staples, but make sure you shop wisely to get the most bang for your buck.

The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics offers these suggestions:

  • Stock up on healthy foods that your family eats in large quantities, especially if the items are on sale.
  • But don't buy food you don't really need just because it's on sale.
  • Only buy as much as your family can eat within two or three months.
  • Before you buy, make sure you have enough room in your freezer to store meat, fish and chicken.
