Health Tip: If You Have Trouble Absorbing Nutrients

Some possible signs of malabsorption

(HealthDay News) -- Malabsorption can be caused by a number of health problems, from gastrointestinal disorders to some forms of cancer.

The U.S. National Library of Medicine says the following symptoms may indicate the body's failure to properly absorb nutrients from food:

  • A lack of weight gain among infants (failure to thrive).
  • Abdominal discomfort, including gas, cramps and bloating.
  • Bulky stools.
  • Persistent diarrhea.
  • Wasting of the muscles.
  • Losing weight.
