The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics says:

  • Iron is crucial for a healthy immune system and brain development.
  • It's found in fish, chicken and lean meats, leafy greens, fruit, legumes and iron-fortified foods.
  • Signs of iron deficiency include: frequent illness, unexplained fatigue, headaches, shortness of breath or dizziness.
